Selectmen approve art contest rules for town's 250th anniversary celebration.

Board of Selectmen · Meeting of January 20, 2026

Blackstone Selectmen finalized rules for the "Capture Our Town Through Art" contest as part of planning for a July 24–26 Semiquincentennial Celebration. The contest accepts original artwork in painting, drawing, photography, and People's Choice categories across adult and youth divisions, with a $3,560 total prize pool and entries to be displayed at Blackstone Public Library starting July 1. The Board approved the contest rules unanimously and authorized separate judging panels drawn from art and photography educators at Nipmuc, BVT, and BMR.

Carnival operations are scheduled for July 23–26, with fireworks tentatively set for Saturday, July 25, and Wayne Kimball (Kimball Sand & Gravel) pledging a $15,000 donation toward a $40,000 sponsorship goal.
