Board of Selectmen approves police sergeant promotion, zoning officer appointment

Blackstone Board of Selectmen unanimously promotes 26-year veteran to sergeant. Police Officer Gregory Haynes advanced after passing written examination alongside three other candidates and surviving panel interview by three external chiefs; Police Chief Gregory Gilmore cited his leadership qualities and peer reputation. The Board also unanimously approved the Fire Chief's three-year contract (July 1, 2026–June 30, 2029) and voted 3-0-1 to approve a Police Union Memorandum of Understanding designed to assist with department vacancies by offering salary and benefits flexibility to candidates with prior service elsewhere.
Colleen Strapponi was appointed Alternate Code Enforcement Officer/Zoning Agent for the remainder of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, to provide zoning enforcement and permitting support while Building Commissioner Vinny Tirone is on military leave.
